Water held in the cells keeps a frond rigid. With the compost dry beyond what its source describes as well-drained, that water is used and not replaced.

Most likely not enough light

Why: Far from a bright window, a lady palm builds leaves it cannot afford.
What to try:
- Move it closer to the brightest window you have, over a week or two rather than in one step.Useful: grow light
- Water less while it is in low light; a lady palm that is barely growing uses little.
What would settle it: Compare a new leaf with one from last year. Smaller and paler, with a longer gap below it, is the reaching pattern rather than a nutrient one.
Possibly its natural habit, or heat
Why: Close to a south window, light is seldom short, so stretching there is less likely to be reaching.
What to try:
- Turn the pot a quarter-turn each week and see whether the lean follows the window.
- Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushier growth, if the lady palm is one that branches.
What would settle it: Whether it leans. A lady palm reaching for light bends toward the window; one growing to its habit, or growing fast in warmth, does not favour a side.
Possibly a lamp that is too far away or too weak

What to try:
- Check the manufacturer's recommended distance for the lamp and measure it.
- Use a lamp made for growing plants rather than an ordinary household bulb.
