Cookies we set ourselves

For readers, one. When you choose a light or dark theme, the choice is stored in a cookie named theme so the site remembers it on your next visit. It holds one word and is not used to identify or track you.

Editors who sign in to the site's admin area also receive session cookies (hp_access, hp_refresh, hp_csrf) that keep them signed in and protect their changes. Readers do not receive them.

Cookies our partners set

Advertising providers, Google among them, may set their own cookies to decide which ads to show and to measure them. These are the cookies that can follow behaviour across sites. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland they are set only after you consent in the message shown on your first visit, which also lets you change your choice later.

If you follow a product link to Amazon, Amazon sets its own cookies on its own site.

Our page-view analytics is not among them. We run Umami on our own server, and it sets no cookie and no identifier: it counts that a page was read, not who read it.

Refusing them

Every browser can block or delete cookies, and most can block third-party cookies while keeping first-party ones. Blocking them all will not stop you using the diagnosis tool or reading any plant page; the theme choice will not be remembered.
